GMI Art Gallery presents a sampling of large format oil paintings by Cuban graphic artist and painter Abel Quintero Fuentes. The paintings portray idyllic pastoral Cuban landscapes populated by humoristic characters. Each character in his paintings recount a story borrowed from Cuban rural folklore.

Esta exposición es presentada por GMI y proviene de la colección Art Millennium 2000. Abel Quintero Fuentes es un joven pintor y artista grafico nacido en Güines, Provincia La Habana, Cuba. La obra de Quintero Fuentes se distinguen por asemejarse a la estructura de un cuento, tambien se caracterizan por su humor, y por personajes humoristicos en elaborados contextos. El artista trabaja sus personajes dentro de exuberantes paisajes rurales. Atraído por las tradiciones del campo y la literatura campesina, sus pinturas se sumerge en un mundo de guateques, historias de fantasmas y aparecidos, décimas y en el arte empírico de los habitantes de la campiña cubana. Esta serie de trabajos incurciona en el arte Naif, de todo ello se destacan obras como Los Exploradores, La Caida de Juan Icano, y Guayiyos.

This exhibition presented by GMI Art Gallery represents selections from the art collection belonging to Art Millennium 2000. The works are by distinguished Cuban artist Abel Quintero Fuentes born in Güines, Habana, Cuba. Quintero Fuentes’ works are characterized by their humor, humorous characters set in elaborate rural landscapes, and storytelling themes bounded in Cuban folk tales and lore. He constructs pictorial scenarios which combine Cuban mythology based on rural literature and traditions with humorist tales or mini stories. The series of narrative paintings on exhibition place the artist in a Naive framework namely the major pieces such as Los Exploradores, La Caida de Juan Icano, y Guayiyos.
